FISHING

There's nothing like being outside surrounded by nature, enjoying the warmth of the sunshine and possibly a slight breeze blowing across your face.  Anyone living in the Ozarks or visiting for a short time will benefit from a day on one of the lakes near Branson.  Whether you go to Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo, Bull Shoals or one of the rivers or creeks emptying into one of the lakes, you can find fish.  And, it doesn't matter if you have a boat, fish from the shore, use a cane pole or the most expensive rig....the fish are definitely out there and provide you with a lot of entertainment.

Most fishermen have certain gear they believe wholeheartedly will catch "the big one". Tackle boxes are so full they barely close and are full of every type of tackle in every shape and color and weight.  Then they probably have a particular type of rigging too.  But I'm here to tell you, I have seen the small child with no real idea of how to catch a fish bring in the biggest fish of the day.  So just how much does the roll of chance play in the sport of fishing.

There are fishermen that prefer bass and don't want to catch anything else.  But then there are those who enjoy primarily catfish or crappie.  And some think they need to take every type of bait imaginable to insure taking a few fish home.  I once commented to my brother he had everything but the kitchen sink to throw after those fish.  It was soon after I came across a lure in the shape of a kitchen sink.  I thought it was funny so I sent it to him.  Whoops...my brother was offended as he takes his fishing very serious.  In fact, he is so serious about fishing that he won't even take a packed lunch.  He says he doesn't want to interrupt his fishing by taking time out to eat.  Now that's dedication....or does he need to go to a 12 step program for addicted fishermen???

August can be a rough month for fishing.  The hotter it gets the deeper the fish go and the earlier you have to get up if you plan on catching any.  With all the rain this spring, many of the tributaries flooded and the water was up on all of the lakes.  It made fishing a bit tough but if you're tougher and wanted to endure a little rain, the fish were out there waiting on you.

There are a lot of good spots where you can just about bet you will find fish at any time of the year and any time of the day or night.  As you cruise along the shoreline you can usually find where someone has marked a tree, stacked rocks, or made some spot that pointed out there special "fishing hole".  Of course, those who marked theirs close to shore and early in the spring went back to find their marker under water.

It's exciting to sit out in the boat and see dear, wild turkey, small wild animals, and just about every type of bird you can think of.  The bald eagle usually comes by to make a show for you as well as the cranes.  The landscape is so beautiful.  I enjoy looking at the ledge rock stuck here and there between grassy knolls and heavily forested areas.

Yepp, a day of fishing is the ultimate way to spend your day.  Happy fishing y'all.

I'll be adding onto this page as soon as I recheck some information.  Thanks   Barb
